I am making a heck of a lot of power with the C&L Street and I still have my control plates. So, I would say there is no "need" to upgrade or replace you CAI or delete plates.
I would say a 3000 or 3500 stall would be much better. You will be much closer to your power band coming out of the hole.
4.10 gears and a TruTrac will help you come out of the hole a lot stronger and help with traction as well.
Of course there are NSR cams which can be done for under $1000. I netted 30+ rwhp/tq.
Then the P&P heads with radical cams, which it sounds like you are trying to avoid. Other than that, weight savings is now the name of the game.

I think w/ 4.10s and racer intake, you could pick up 3 tenths; maybe more...
rad. suppork, Kmember, A arms will loose around 50lbs up front, battery relocation wouldnt hurt.
Elec water pump and p/s bypass belt will give you another .1ish

Check out Bill's Car from CJ Ponyparts, he's running real strong with minimal power Mods, I am reviewing his setup I may go with what he has, it seems to be the right combo.

Best bang for the buck Cams would be the NSR Stage II Comps, but you will not gain a log of low end tq.

Maybe heads, cams and a 3500 rpm stall. A higher stall will let you launch harder.

do you have 127200?
I was thinking about
127300
do you think the 300's are worth the extra cost(springs) and work?
how much more do people get from 200 to 300?

LOL, I do not have Cams, but the 127200 are NSR and 127300 are VSR as you statedand I am not sure the amount of added cost and trouble to replace the springs is worth it.
Some beleive that it is worth it because the stock springs are weak and it's worth it for added reliability.
Ask Boss281 (John) he has the 127300's
