Old Dominion is the birth place of the fastest growing class in NASCAR, "Late Model Stock Car". Although still an independent dragway, originally owned and operated by a Mr. Al Gore, Old Dominion Dragway is one of the first drag strips in the country to open its doors to the public. In 1952, then called Longview Raceway, the track was part of an initiative started by Wally Parks (founder of the NHRA) to stop unsafe street racing and help get more drivers into the sport of racecar driving. They are also the birth place of the Southern Bracket Racing Association (SBRA).

To this day the current owner, Mr. Steve Britt, continues to have many events every month, all dedicated to helping give kids (and adults) a place to get off the street and earn their bragging rights.

Knowing how much impact the raceway has had on the racing community and how many racing "firsts" have been born out of this track, we felt it would be fitting to have or inaugural event at this local track.
