Well, I am pretty much done for the season. I only have 1 more track day I will be attending this year. I am finishing out the year feeling confident about the Spring. I have to get a 3800-4000 rpm stall converter to address some 60’ issues. I think I am going to switch from 28” tires on a 17” wheel, to a 27” tire on a 15” wheel. I need to get my shift schedule dialed in so I can stop manually shifting this auto (defeats the purpose).

Unless there is a miracle on the 28th and I blast some insane times, here is what I am closing the season out with…

Best Pass on the current setup (5r55s): 12.531 @ 108 mph, 1.98 60’

Quickest Pass: 12.493 (tr6060)
Fastest Pass: 110 MPH (5r55s)
Best 60’: 1.68 (tr3650)

As you can see, I am going to need to get the car dialed. There have been some ups and downs. But for the most part, my overall performance has improved nicely compared to the 2008 season. 2010 should prove to be interesting to say the least.

I just wanted to thank a few people for backing me up this year.

I need to thank Kim for supporting the race team Five Guys Racing and the new series “Street Jam Racing” which we are trying to get off the ground. It’s great to have him onboard. I think all of the S197Forum community will see some nice events in 2010.

I want to thank Excessive Motorsport for all of the work and parts they contributed to my endeavors. Chris and Torrey, you guys rock! Without the hours of tuning, all of the great parts, support on the fly, and putting up with all my whining I wouldn’t be here.

I want to thank Doug from BamaChips. He has been helping me and Excessive overcome some crazy problems with my car. Thanks for the help on the drivability issues!

I want to thank Justin from JPC for an awesome deal on a solid 5R55s. He knows I’m broke and needed some help. He really took great care of me.

Of course I need to thank Thump Racing, Fore Precession Works, and Woodbine Motorsports for all of their support this year with the S197 Shootout.

I can’t forget about you guys (the members) either. Thanks for all the feedback and support while I try to catch-up to Art, Chad, and Matt in the chase for 11’s NA.

Peace!
Spaz

I have to admit I eye balled that short block longer than usual.....

Chad, please try the P51, or have a stock clutch fitted with a 26 spline center..Trust me on this one:)

The shag?? Looks perfect.

Marc...Try feeling confident about your next track day........It aint over till it's over.

All I did was match my PB from 2008 all year at much lower MPH. Scratching my head over that one, although I ran with the C&L manifold all year. Have to test that. So......

Over the winter I'm going to get my 4.30s installed, then have the latest C&L manifold setup dyno tuned, THEN swap out the manifold for the stock unit with delete plates, and have THAT dyno tuned. Both units and tunes go to the track for the first rental, and we'll see what's what.

After that, I'll work on my last power making mod (heads and new cam) and weight reduction (seats), suspension (front coilovers/adj struts), and decent tunes and directions (any recommendations? Pioneer?).

Well, with a few mods and determination and extreme persistance, Laura has run her car within half a second of my best. I need to drop another half second now!!!!!

That sounds good Chad, I hope you get deep into the 11's this spring. Someone has to see what these S197's can really do with full bolt's, full exhaust, complete top end, but stock bore/stroke. :gwave:

SD is only 1hrish from me, so its someone I can SEE.

10.25:1... just a little umph, but not too much to totally rule out boost, balanced to use more safe rpms w/ cams/intake, and a fresh motor.

Chad, please try the P51, or have a stock clutch fitted with a 26 spline center..Trust me on this one:)

Stock clutch??? 26 spline w/ TR6060 ;) I had a horrible welding experience w/ a Powergrip HD, remember (RIP TR6060 1-2, 3-4synchros, and 2nd gear)?

I have my clutch built, using powergrip HD 'wheel, but w/ staggered asbestos/kevlar in a full ring to my pressure plate. Ill maybe go w/ a little metal when I go w/ the shortblock... maybe.

The shag?? Looks perfect.

Marc...Try feeling confident about your next track day........It aint over till it's over.

My best 60 was a 1.59 on ET Streets and 1.64 on Drag Radials. I just switched back to ET Streets a month or so and am working my way back down. ON a Spec II+ clutch no less. We'll have to see how it lasts...

That said what clutch are you using?

26spline Ram Powergrip HD pressure plate, built clutch aesbestos/kevlar, RAM Steel flywheel

The short version:
RPS 1.67 1.69 consistantly...Wore it out fast, they don't make that one any more.
Short trip through Specs yeilded 1.8 on a "perfect" launch.
Zoom clutch 1.68 1.71 lasted 14 passes.
Put stock clutch in: 1.61-1.63
Tried Exedy 1.67 "once" the rest were 1.7/1.8
After the 'Rock re-installed stock clutch, first pass 1.58...1.58-1.62 consistant!! Almost can't fuck up a launch unless you really try...

so, stock pressure plate??

which flywheel(s)?

P51 is similar to HD metal...

So, Im thinking must be flywheel and or pressureplate.

ArtQ
11-23-2009, 09:18 PM
Chad, the only reason I say try the P51 is it uses all the stock components but the disc. I would try one but I'm done testing clutches.
After spending a sickening amount of money, I'm back to full stock..Press plate. flywheel everything. It works!!

I am sickened by the thought of how much $ Ive wasted on clutch R&D

Ill look into pressure plate and clutch... but if I HAD to guess.. that big ugly flywheel is where I'd put my $.

Don't call it quits yet!:qd:
You still have two more Saturdays @ Cecil :drunk:

December will bring 'cold' weather and a lot of new best times are made in the last month of the '1320 season'....:pileon:

I tried going to MIR today since I couldn't make it to Cecil. My alternator died while I was out there. I can tell you that without a steady 13.5 to 14.5 volts, my car doesn't run very welll :-(

As if wrapping up a 15 hour day by getting towed home wan't bad enough, Lindsay took it upon herself to spend several hours arguing with me about ho I need to get rid of the car... What a crap day.

$800 for a new alt and $250 for a used or rebuilt unit isn't too great either.

This story just keeps getting worse.

What a bummer .....

That is way we purchased the hauler.
Towing charges and then repair charges can quickly add up to a "Hauler"
